Kosuke Fukudome is the god of my heart

With the possible exception that he made me mad I decided to go in to work today (hey, I have tickets Sunday, no big deal right?) Kosuke Fukudome is the greatest human being on the planet in the history of the world and things.

Of course, the Cubs still lost. Of course. Cubs fan/friend/commenter Jason is telling me that Piniella made the wrong move not to bring Kerry Wood in as the actual closer — let’s hope Lou doesn’t make a habit of indecisiveness this year. That got really old really fast last year, and I don’t think it made the team any better. Worse, probably.

Still, this is really all I needed as confirmation: Kosuke Fukudome authentic, here I come.

Drink up, Brewers fans: An interview with Pee Your Pants for The Brewers’ site creator, Bernie

peeyourpants.jpg

A few weeks back, I wrote a post for the FanHouse about PeeYourPantsForTheBrewers.com — a site where Brewers fans are pledging to um, pee their pants if/when the Brewers make the playoffs. I was, how shall I put this, pretty enamored with the whole concept, so I decided to e-mail the site’s creator, Bernie, and do an interview with him. Below are his answers to questions I posed to him via e-mail.

1) You are pledging to pee your pants when/if the Brewers make the playoffs. How’d you come up with the idea? And did you think anyone else was actually going to sign up to pee their pants when you originally started the site?

The idea came from my older brother two years ago. He was 24 at the time and talking to my then 12 year old brother. Discussing the brewers my brother said, when I was your age they had never been to the playoffs - 12 years later they still haven’t been. I don’t know what I’d do if they made the playoffs- maybe I would pee my pants.

I hoped it would catch on and people would get excited about it, but I didn’t think it would get so big so quickly. I actually had to stop taking pledges for a day because the system we had couldn’t handle everything coming in. But it’s good now - more of a steady stream. I think when the Brewers do well again or closer to the playoffs - the site will get some more attention again.

2) The site has gotten a good amount of buzz from sports blog and the like. While I’m sure you’d like to spread the movement, it seems to have hindered it a bit — such as folks signing up under obvious false names and filling in information for the heck of it. Does that frustrate you? Bother you? Or is it just part of having a site on the Web, that people are going to clown around with it from time to time and you just have to roll with the punches? Is it even all that prevalent?

It hasn’t hindered the site at all. Any attention the site gets is great. The vast majority of pledges are quality ones from people genuinely excited about the Crew. It’s pretty easy to spot the Brewers-haters out there. Their favorite player is usually something like “NOBODY!!!” I get it guys - you’re all hilarious. They’re very easy to delete though. I try to only approve the quality and true pledges.

3) What sort of attire will you be wearing if the Brewers make the playoffs/the day you pee your pants? Shorts with boxers? Or are you going with tight jeans so it will really soak in and people will notice?

Not sure yet - depends when they do it. If they can get hot again - they may be clinching in late August - so I’d wear some silky shorts. If it’s late in September it might be a little chillier. I’m not too concerned about it.

4) Have you gotten a lot of folks contacting you, whether they be Brewers fans or media-types? If so, what has the overall response been?

A fair amount of press and requests for interviews. I try to entertain them all. Most people are pretty excited about it and just want to talk about the general idea. I just did a radio interview this afternoon where one guy from the “Free Beer and Hot Wings Show” was a bit of a jerk. Apparently, he takes himself really seriously and can’t take a good joke. That’s fine though. I’ll take the good with the bad, but overall it’s been an overwhelmingly positive response.

5) And lastly, the Brewers have been slumping as of late, are you worried you may not be able to pay your pants come playoff time?

Oh man, they’re really taking right now. I’m not too worried. We’ve still got a 5.5 game lead. They’ve been playing well in the losses and everyone seems to be saying the right things. They’re not falling apart as a team though - still playing hard and getting their bat on the ball - the ball just goes straight to gloves. I’ve got to keep up the faith.

Postscript: I originally caught wind of this site via Deadspin, of course.
