LSU fans flooded Tim Tebow’s cell phone
The World of Tim Tebow has not been quite as magical these last two weeks as Florida lost consecutive games. (I would have thought they would never lose with him at the helm.) But alas, we have had to deal with the fact that maybe Tebow is a mere mortal. However, that doesn’t been after LSU fans got his cell phone number last week and bombarded him with calls, he let it affect him at all.
“His friends took his cell phone and the calls and messages would come in faster than they could erase them,” said Tebow’s father, Bob. “How many messages can you erase in a minute? They came in faster than that.”
Tebow called the ordeal “an interesting experience, just handling it all,” Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.
But he said it was not too much.
After scoring a touchdown in Baton Rouge, Tebow put his hand to his helmet and taunted the crowd, as if to say, “Call me now.” He said it was all in good fun.
“They were having fun with me, so I was having fun with them, too,” he said. “It’s what college football is all about. It’s just fun, and I had fun with it. I know it probably got under their skin a little bit.”
Asked what the messages from the fans said, he replied, “I don’t use that type of language too much, so I can’t tell you. Some people did take it way too far, farther than you should take it with sports. But I think for the most part people were just having fun.”
Some of the calls included threats.
“There was some stuff like that, but I didn’t worry about it or think about it,” Tebow said. “I didn’t even think it was that big of a deal.”
Remember last week when that high school quarterback got threats to his cell phone and the police got involved? Pssh. Tim Tebow does not roll that way. He merely sees it as fun and games, homie. If only we all had such an agreeable disposition.

Big Baby gets hit by a car, lives to tell about it
Glen “Big Baby” Davis probably should have left college the year LSU went to the Final Four like his Tiger counterpart Tyrus Thomas. The ceiling for the big man, it was high. But he stuck around for another year, LSU wasn’t good and he got drafted in the second round during this summer’s NBA Draft. Bad choice, bub. I feel for ya. Oh yeah, then he got hit by a “smart” car in Rome.
He kind of hit me on the thigh, but it didn’t even hurt at all. I mean, it was one of those small cars that just fits two people. You see them all over here.
I told my mom I got hit by a car, and she was like, “Oh, lord, are you hurt?” I told her, “No, mom, I’m way bigger than the car.”
The guy knew it, too. When he got out, he checked his car first to see if it was OK. It was fine. No insurance claims or anything like that. Everything’s intact. I just kept walking.
One time when I was little, a guy completely ran me over with his bike. (Seriously, true story.) It hurt a lot. Big Baby is a lot tougher than me.

Case of the Mondays: College basketball fiesta
Quite a weekend for college hoops, huh?
So our Hoosiers suffered a massive meltdown in Lansing - so what? We didn’t expect them to win anyway, and those Spartans are a dangerous, dangerous squad, provided they don’t turn the ball over. Oh well, right?
No, the main action to be seen was elsewhere in the Big Ten, as I mentioned Friday. That game didn’t disappoint one bit, as the Badgers put up a great second half fight even after they lost criminally underrated center Brian Butch. The big man’s bum elbow will definitely damage the Badgers’ chances of overtaking Ohio State in the Big Ten tourney, or of making a huge NCAA push … but if any team can weather an injury, it’s Wisconsin. They’ll be imperfect, but tough nonetheless.
Elsewhere, we can shake our heads dismissively at Florida today. Luke Winn’s question from Saturday’s letdown to undermanned LSU rings true: Are the Gators good enough to flip the proverbial switch whenever necessary? Are they the Shaq-and-Kobe-era Lakers, capable of huge regular season relaxation periods as well as playoff success? We’ll see in the next few weeks.
Also partially interesting: Maryland takes down UNC in College Park. Are the Terps making a surge here or what? That’s five in a row for a suddenly dangerous tournament team.
Georgetown tops Pittsburgh. Speaking of surging, the Hoyas are playing as well as anyone in the country right now. They’re certainly playing better than Florida and UNC, and even maybe better than Wisconsin.
No Big Surprise from Big Baby
It’s a crucial point in time for many college basketball stars. They must ask themselves some questions - should I go pro and sign a multi-million dollar contract and begin my professional career and sign dozens of endorsement deals - or should I go back to school?
Gonzaga’s Adam Morrison can’t decide. Duke’s Josh McRoberts can’t either. But LSU’s Tyrus Thomas and Glen Davis - who formed one of the best frontcourt tandems in the nation last season - have made up their minds.
One is a surprise, the other is not. Thomas and ‘Big Baby’ Davis both loved being in the spotlight this past season during the Tigers’ Final Four run. Thomas, however, seemed to enjoy it the most out of the two big men and began seeing himself as a future NBA player the minute ESPN ran a highlight of him. Davis, on the other hand, realized he had a lot of work left to do before heading to the NBA, especially when it came to his eating habits.
Nobody wants to see another Baby Shaq in the NBA just yet. Good decision, Glen.
