And LeBron blows all our minds

I discussed this Tuesday. I had a quaint little post about how LeBron was the most naturally talented player ever to enter the NBA, the most explosive raw talent we’ve ever seen.

Now, LeBron has his ragtag Cavs up - UP - on the Pistons. Amazing.

Of course, last night’s win wasn’t just thanks to LeBron. The Pistons are playing noticably worse than they did almost the entire regular season. I’m not exactly an avid Pistons viewer, but that much is plain to see.

The Mighty MJD, a fan of the Mighty DTP, says it’s because the Pistons offense, and defense, are worse. That pretty much covers it all, I suppose.

But as bad as the Pistons are playing, these past two wins have been LeBron’s. He runs the show - a mystifying, gorgeous, make-you-giddy-about-the-NBA-again show.

Um, yeah…amazing?

LeBron James is not the best player in the history of the NBA. Yet.

We can all agree on that. What we do need to consider, though, is that LeBron is quickly convincing that he might be, just maybe, the most naturally talented player in the history of the NBA.

It’s been said plenty of times before: the guy can barely (legally) booze and he’s doing this, etc. It’s scary to think of what he will do when (fill in the age here.) Blah blah blah.

But James is competing against the best players in the world, and in this series, he’s competing against the most complete five-man squad in the league. And he’s still doing what he’s doing. He’s winning against these guys.

Whether the Cavs lose this series or win (and won’t we need to reconsider some things then), we still need to consider it. LeBron, the most naturally (”God-given,” if you prefer) talented player ever to enter the NBA.

It just sounds right. Because it is.

Skip Bayless chimes in on the ‘next MJ’

After numerous commenters (and by ‘numerous’ I mean three) blasted me for my LeBron James comments last week, I felt it necessary to respond in a post. Because, well, the detractors (if they even ever come back to this site) will be more likely to see this post then to dig back through the site and look up the comments under the LeBron post from last week.

And I think, barring injuries and if he gets a few championships under his belt, he will be perhaps THE best of all-time.

Dictionary.com defines the word perhaps as ‘maybe; possibly.’ So, yeah, nowhere did I say he was better than MJ right now, just that if he wins a few titles there’s a good chance he will mentioned right up there with Jordan, PERHAPS even better than him after all is said and done.

And yes, commenter Romes, Steve Kerr is right. The Cavs do look a lot like the late 80’s Bulls where everyone watched Jordan do everything. And once Jordan got good players around him, they were able to win championships. Which if LeBron gets teammates of the same caliber as Pippen etc., he’ll have an excellent shot at winning a few titles as well. In essence, all you are doing is strengthening my arugment.

Anywho, everyone’s favorite robot Skip Bayless just wrote a column about the whole ‘Next MJ’ thing in regards to Kobe and King James. After a bunch of whimsy rhetoric, he says Kobe has no shot at MJ’s throne and LeBron will never ‘quite be Jordan.’

Even with a solid first half by King James last night, the Pistons routed the Cavs 113-86. And no matter how good LeBron plays, it’s going to be insanely difficult to beat a team that actually plays defense (unlike the Wizards) and has a fluid and cohesive starting five.

But let us not forget it took MJ three tries before he got past Detroit.

(Also, due to lack of resources, I won’t be able to get my Derby video up until tomorrow. It’s worth the wait, trust us.)

LeBron James : He’s good at basketball

This kid is on his way to becoming an all-time great. And I think, barring injuries and if he gets a few championships under his belt, he will be perhaps THE best of all-time. (Sorry, Michael.) But my arguments for that are reserved for another post.

LeBron’s acrobatic-tight-rope-walking-of-the-baseline for a lay-up at the end of overtime (did anyone else notice he had four guys defending him when he layed it in?) sealed up a 121-120 win for the Cavs, putting them up 3-2 in the series over the Wizards.

Steve Nash may have been the MVP and Kobe Bryant may have scored 81 points, but in my opinion, there is no one in the league more exciting and entertaining to watch on a nightly basis than King James.

We are all witnesses.

Fun with ‘futbol’

We have to admit, the new Nike soccer ‘joga tv’ commercials are pretty sweet.

This one featuring Barcelona’s Ronaldinho is the most amazing, but we’re pretty sure him kicking the ball off the crossbar back to himself is fake. It’s kind of similar to that LeBron James Powerade commercial a few years back, when King James was draining 80-foot shots in his sleep.

We all know that from a basketball standpoint that is pretty impossible, but since this is America and we don’t know much about this ‘futbol’ thing, Ronaldinho’s moves could be real.
