Kyle Singler doesn’t get it yet

Oh, but you will Kyle. You will.

“We’ve become somewhat accustomed to it, but the new guys on our team aren’t accustomed to it,” Coach K’s wife, Mickie, told me. “J.J. Redick was accustomed to it, but Kyle Singler isn’t accustomed to it. It’s like, why? Kyle Singler is one of the all-time great kids, and he just walks out on the court and gets booed. It’s like, ‘What did I do wrong?’

At some point in the recruiting process, someone failed young Kyle. Whether you agree with Duke hate or not — I enjoy it if I actually hate the player, a la Greg Paulus, but admit I never found a reason to hate, say, Elton Brand — you have to admit it’s an hilarious fact of collegiate basketball life. And if you go to Duke, spend time on campus, and agree to sign a letter of intent, and you genuinely have no idea that in doing so you will be roundly booed at every away venue for the rest of your collegiate life … someone has failed you. Miserably.
