East Kentucky makes Michigan State look like Indiana
Sorry, I still haven’t really gotten over yesterday’s drubbing at the hands of Michigan State. It’s not that I’m worried about IU, though I probably should be. It’s that I still can’t believe the Spartans’ offensive performance actually happened. To wit:
104 points in 40 minutes
71.3 effective field goal percentage
70 possessions
1.5 points per possession
59 points in the first fucking half
That’s … ridiculous. That doesn’t even compute. I can’t get my head around it.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, the East Kentucky Miners had to go out blow my mind all over again. Their output? 194 points.
East Kentucky, one of four expansion franchises in the Continental Basketball Association, broke a CBA single-game scoring record Sunday night in a 194-115 win over Atlanta. The Miners shattered the previous single-game scoring mark of 183 points.
Mike Dean (24-21) led East Kentucky with a game-high 44 points. Eight different Miners reached double figures in the scoring column. Josh Pace scored 28 points and Boo Jackson contributed a double-double of 26 points and 20 rebounds for the Miners. Lawrence Barnes netted 23 points in host East Kentucky’s record-breaking victory.
East Kentucky shot 69.3-percent (41-of-52) from the field and 91.1-percent (27-of-30) from the free-throw line.
I don’t know a thing about the East Kentucky Miners — until just a few minutes ago, I didn’t even know there was a still a CBA. I thought Zeke Thomas ran that thing into the ground years ago. But seriously: 194 points. For shame, Michigan State. You got totally pwned.
