Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee on the Hill: It’s riveting theater

It’s hard to wrap my mind around what all is going on today up on the Hill (other than the fact that we still don’t really have any cold hard evidence) but here are some random, obtuse observations:
- Clemens is admitting McNamee injected his wife with HGH. But he’s not admitting he’s ever done it. (What?)
- Andy Pettitte’s story is not consistent with Roger’s. This does not help Clemens. Not at all.
- It’s clear both these guys have lied. But I’m of the camp that McNamee lied to protect Clemens a few years back, but when the feds put the pressure on, he had to come clean. And Clemens recording the phone call and playing it put him over the top.
- I don’t know if Clemens showed up at this Jose Canseco party or not, but I wish I was invited to a party at Jose’s. I bet you he has a nice pool.
- Clemens doesn’t know what a vegan is. (I don’t think there are any vegans in Texas. This could be why.)
- As E chronicled at FanHouse earlier, it’s sort of obvious the Republians are backing Clemens while the Dems are siding with McNamee. THERE’S A DIVIDE IN THIS COUNTRY.
- Brian McNamee, through all this, has been rather calm and reserved — he’s been a cool cat. That doesn’t mean we should believe every word he says, but just pointing that out. Much more stuttering on Clemens’ end.
Oh and one last thing: I really wish Andy Pettitte and crew showed up to this thing. Could have been a lot more fun.

Too bad congress can’t focus on something important like poverty, taxes, or the mortgage crisis. Why the government has to be involved with Sports is beyond me.
