Weekend Fun: Wild Card wildness!

pigskin.pngI’ve made no secret of the fact that, since about Week 3 of the NFL season, the Bears have meant little to nothing to me. It became very clear, very early, that this team was not worth a serious emotional investment beyond the normal rigors of home fandom. They sucked, and even worse, they were boring. There was no Purple Jesus. Instead, there was only the perfect storm of apathy that is Rex Grossman, Brian Griese, and Kyle Orton. Blech.

But now, the season is over, my pretend Bears fandom is finished, and I can move on to the best weekend of the NFL year: Wild Card weekend.

Wild Card weekend combines everything that’s great about the NFL into one orgasmic two-day package. Let’s see: There’s violence, of course, but there’s also the parity and unpredictability that helps make the NFL so great in the first place … but without the bad teams. Each of these teams is at least semi-competent, making the games that much more exciting, and that much less painful.

Next week, this all gets ruined. The dominant teams are back, the unpredictability goes ever so slightly out the window, and life in the NFL is back to normal. But this one weekend  — these four games — totally pwn. Or, they’re roxor. Whichever you prefer.

Oh, and nothing else is going on. So we’ll see you Monday.
