Poor Isiah Thomas
At this point, it’s just getting sad. It’s not that Isiah Thomas doesn’t deserve the vitriol flying indiscriminately toward him on a daily basis. He does. He’s incredibly, irresponsibly bad at his job, and has been so for an extended period of time. The fans deserve their bloodletting.
No, what’s sad is that like an old, senile man whose cat has run off with his dentures, Isiah just seems to be totally losing it. He’s not even here anymore. Isiah no talky now:
“I believe one day we will win a championship here,” Thomas said. “I believe couple of these guys will be a part of that. I believe I’ll be a part of that. As I sit here today, some people will laugh even more. But I’m hellbent on getting this accomplished and making sure that we get it done. I’m not leaving until we get it done.
“This is a dark time for us,” Thomas added. “But I know there’s a light at the end of this tunnel. I’m going to keep digging and pushing and I’m not going to quit. I’m going to do it here.”
Thomas’ remarks came one day after he claimed he doesn’t want to make any moves at the trading deadline because he likes the nucleus.
“I want to leave a legacy, I want to leave a tradition and imprint and blueprint in terms of how people play, coach and respond when they put on a Knick uniform,” Thomas said. “I want to leave what I left in Detroit. Every person who walks through the door, the Pistons who put on that uniform, it’s a certain pride they carry. I want to put it here and leave it here in New York and leave a championship legacy.”
First of all, when the New York Post calls you delusional, it’s really time to reevaluate … everything. Second, the scariest thing about this is not that Isiah’s determined to win a championship. This is, after all, relatively run-of-the-mill coach-speak. No, what’s scariest about this is that given his history, the notion that Isiah would be kept around long enough to win a championship with this bloated husk of a lineup isn’t even that farfetched.
