This just in: Packers fans wear ugly things

packer_hat.jpgI know, I know. You’d never guess a mecca of fashion like Green Bay — nestled in the hotbed of cutting-edge style that is Wisconsin — would ever have an irrational desire for ugly yellow hats. Green Bay people, wearing ugly things on their heads? Come off it! Next thing, you’ll be trying to tell me that their women don’t wear mom jeans! Get out!

But still, that is the problem the great people of Wisconsin now face: a shortage of the ugly yellow skulls caps Brett Farve tops his peppered head with every Sunday :

Brett Favre probably didn’t do much to score one. But tons of Green Bay Packers fans are scrambling to find the gold-and-white knit caps he and other players have been wearing on the sideline in recent weeks.

Scrambling so much that the team keeps selling out. That’s leaving a lot of Packers fans out in the cold hunting for the sideline cap as a holiday gift on sites like eBay. While the caps sell in stores for $17.95 — if you can find it — sellers on the online auction site are asking as much as $150. […]

Unless you’re someone like Patti Klemm, from Medford in northern Wisconsin. She has been trying to find a cap for her 10-year-old son Trent for weeks, since he saw Favre wearing one and decided he wanted it. She’s been to about five stores, looked online and finally put in a bid on eBay. But her top bid of $40 was nearly doubled. She figures her son will understand. He’s got plenty of other Packers gear — like a new Brett Favre replica jersey — awaiting him for Christmas.

“I’m not going to go that crazy but I’m sure there will be people that will,” said Klemm, 43.

Whatever Patti. If you really love the Pack — if you really want your boys to beat the lowly Bears this week — you’ll spend $200 on that hat. $200 not only makes you a Superfan, but it officially makes that gahd-awful thing high fashion. If only Armani sold Looney Tunes sweatshirts …

I got my hat about two months ago. If only I had thought to ‘invest’ in a dozen or so, I could be more than a grand richer by now. So much for my fashion savvy.

I liked it better when they put cheese on their heads.
