Alex Rodriguez voted for staying on the Yankees before he voted against it
Hot damn: This Alex Rodriguez saga may be ending without the chap even being able to choose his own adventure. According to his woefully designed Web site and various other new outlets, A-Rod is having nice conversations with the Yankees about money, commitment, honor and the like.
From his aforementioned website web site Web site:
After spending time with Cynthia and my family over these last few weeks, it became clear to me that I needed to make an attempt to engage the Yankees regarding my future with the organization.
Prior to entering into serious negotiations with other clubs, I wanted the opportunity to share my thoughts directly with Yankees’ ownership. We know there are other opportunities for us, but Cynthia and I have a foundation with the club that has brought us comfort, stability and happiness.
As a result, I reached out to the Yankees through mutual friends and conveyed that message. I also understand that I had to respond to certain Yankees concerns, and I was receptive and understanding of that situation.
Cynthia and I have since spoken directly with the Steinbrenner family. During these healthy discussions, both sides were able to share honest feelings and hopes with one another, and we expect to continue this dialogue with the Yankees over the next few days.
In all honesty, I have always quietly thought the Yankees were still the front runner for A-Rod’s services despite Scott Boras’ declaration during Game 4 of the World Series. Let’s think about it: any team other than the Yankees, save for maybe Boston and a few others, are going to absolutely cripple their payroll to sign the guy. Why would you want him on your team, when in all likelihood, his salary is going to dictate any moves you make in the foreseeable future? After all, he’s not quite as valuable as Boras would lead you to believe. (See here and here.) He is still very good, though.
In any event, I hope he ends up back in NY, gets booed mercifully everywhere he goes, wins the AL MVP and gets a World Series title next year. And I hope there’s some clause in his contract that if and when he does that, he gets to play with a jersey that says TRUE YANKEE on the front in big, bold letters further drawing the ire of every Yankee fan that ever doubted him. Yeah, that would be awesome.
