Tom Cruise to Beckham’s rescue
It’s been a rough go for our pal David Beckham out on the pitch in America. He was, um, injured a lot and stuff and well, that sort of took away from the hoopla — however fleeting it was — of his arrival. But when you are in despair, you only need to call on one man to brighten your day.
… Cruise said he has a few ideas on how to cheer up Beckham: airplanes and race cars.
“We will go out and fly some airplanes or race some cars or something like that,” Cruise told BBC Radio 5 Live as he hit the red carpet for the London Film Festival premiere of his new flick, Lions for Lambs, which opens Nov. 9.
Cruise, 45, admitted that any thrilling exploits would first have to get the go-ahead from Beckham’s wife.
“I’ll talk to Victoria and see if she’s all right with that. But we’ll have some fun,” he said.
Cruise, who lives a few blocks away from the Beckhams in Beverly Hills, dished praise on his 32-year-old friend who has been injury-ridden since he arrived in L.A. in July.
“I know what a competitor he is and I have great admiration for him as an athlete, as a father, and as a husband,” he said. “The guy works so hard – I know personally how dedicated this guy is, and how committed.”
You know, if my parents suddenly died in a fiery wreck, I lost all my money and broke my arm all in one day, I could think of nothing better to cheer me up than driving race cars with Tom Cruise. Seriously, have you ever seen that man’s smile? It brings the joy of Christmas, New Year’s, whatever Scientologists celebrate about, ice cream, warm summer days and beautiful women all into one neat, dimpled package. Do I want to make out with Tom Cruise, you ask? No.
But holding hands sure would be nice.

Tom Cruise and beautiful women go about as well together as America and soccer.
