Ow ow ow

Dear average disinterested American soccer viewer that probably played rec league as a child:

Remember when you would kick your leg up really high, and a teenage referee would call “dangerous play,” and you wouldn’t really know what he was talking about because you were pretty sure that wasn’t dangerous at all and really you were only just trying to kick the ball, not be dangerous, and what’s so wrong about that? Remember that? And then your parents would start screaming about it? That was fun!

This is why that rule was invented. That is the definition of a dangerous play. Still, fortunately for us, dangerous is often synonymous with entertaining.
