At least African children will get use out of them

mets-shirt.jpgI’ve got to admit: I feel bad for the Mets. Sure, it’s no one’s fault but the team’s that they played such listless, ineffective baseball down the stretch. Still, I feel bad for the team because they achieved at about their skill level over the course of the entire year, but suffered a disproportionate share of losses in the last month of the season and thus have to deal with the indignity of being called “chokers” et. al. for the offseason and beyond. That’s no fun.

Of course, that won’t stop me from posting about the Mets’ unfortunate sale of the pictured NL East Division Champs shirts. Memo to teams: it is never a good idea to sell these before the deal is done. Never.

Now, the shirts are surely headed various third-world countries, where young African village children will carry on the legacy of the 2007 Mets and their associated cotton, and all the failure that stands for. At least they don’t say “World Bank” on the front, right?
