Eagles fans given yet another reason to hate their favorite team

75-308front1.jpgRetro jerseys are a tricky proposition. The jerseys in question have to have been, at some point, palatable, enjoyable, et al., but also have to have some vague relation to whatever current uniforms the team sports. For example, the Chargers powder blues are so good because they’re just outside convention, but not so much that they verge on ugly. This is my theory — and it might be totally whacked — but I’m sticking with it.

Theory No. 2: Retro jerseys from any time before, oh, 1950 are always a bad idea. Those practice jersey-looking things the Lions wear every Thanksgiving? Bad. Same goes for the Packers’ gold and tan numbers. And of course, the same goes for the Eagles’ legendary quasi-Nuggets 1933 get ups, which — get this — they’re inexplicably trotting out yet again this weekend:

I don’t know about you, but if i had $275 in cash laying around, there’s nothing I’d rather get than a Brian Dawkins 1933 Authentic Throwback jersey. Wait, nevermind. I just thought of about six hundred and forty seven things I’d rather spend my money on.

Get excited Eagles fans because on Sunday, you don’t have to bleed green. Bleeding baby blue is much healthier anyway. And heck, if you happen to drop your Tony Luke’s cheesesteak on your jersey, the whiz will blend right in!

The only explanation for these uniforms ever having been used consistently is that, as we all know, the world was only in black and white until right around the early 60’s, so the offensive tones were undetectable even to those in the stadium. Also, surely the irony of buying a 1933 Donovan McNabb jersey — from an era predating Jackie Robinson, much less Doug Williams — will not be lost on Eagles fans as they lustily boo their favorite team this weekend.

Oh, and on booing: I love Enrico and The 700 Level, but at what point is booing counterproductive? It’s fair to boo individuals if they’re consistently bad and their use is antithetical to team success — and entire teams if they’re demonstrably bad — but I don’t know that McNabb or 2007 Eagles are there yet. Give it, say, five weeks? Maybe 1-4? That’s reasonable, right? Until then, you’re just inviting the stupid Philly fan stereotype that only more obnoxious idiots really deserve.

Prose from the Pros:

The super bowl has arranged the contest of international standard among the different football teams on domestic as well as international level. The carolina panthers is well-organized football team of America, belonged to Charlotte, North Carolina. The chicago bears is one of most popular football team of Chicago.

Horrible, horrible jerseys. They look like something you’d find on clearance at Ross or TJ Maxx.

Figures, these Jerseys are the reason why tv sets were in black and white back then.
