Roy Williams loves fantasy football
Every now and then, an NFL player says something in the preseason like “Draft me, I’m goin’ wild this year!,” and you want to trust him and draft him a little high … but then you remember that most NFL players heave no idea what constitutes good fantasy performance. Jeremy Shockey, for example, seems convinced fantasy owners are rewarded a point every time he flexes and screams after a catch. Not the case.
And if ESPN’s expert fantasy draft taught us anything, it’s that a lot of old football people aren’t down with the fantasy. That’s cool. Why should they be? Any NFL player too obsessed with their own stats, past or present, is probably neglecting some pretty important facets of actually playing the game, being a team player, and so on.
But that doesn’t appear to the case on the Detroit Lions, especially not with wideout Roy Williams, a not-too-shabby fantasy player himself. Williams and Co. seem way into fantasy (via Aaron Gleeman at RotoWorld):
On how many fantasy leagues he is in: “Five. I just set them on Tuesday, my off day, and don’t move them unless something drastic happens.”
More on fantasy: “When we’re at the stadium and they show the highlights or the stats on the screen I’m definitely one of the guys who is paying attention to them.”
Who’s got the best fantasy team on the Lions? (Williams is the GM of the league): “(Offensive lineman) George Foster has a pretty nice ballclub. He put up 145 points this week and still has a player or two to play. His players showed up this week.”
On what he does when a Lions’ opponent is on his fantasy team: “You bench them. If I had the Raiders’ defense, they definitely would have been on the bench for me.”
Williams goes on to call partner Calvin Johnson “Megatron,” which is cool enough by itself, but the real news here is that Roy Williams has, count ‘em, five fantasy football teams. I can imagine no greater pleasure than being able to insert yourself in the lineup against a bad defense, and then getting your real team and two or three of your fantasy teams a standout performance. That’s like creating yourself in a video game … but it’s real, man. World of Warcraft ain’t got nothin’ on that.

Prose from the Pros:
The super bowl is one of the leading football championship game organizers which work under the guardianship of national football league. The baltimore ravens is one of the major football team of America, originated from Baltimore. The buffalo bills is also one of the foremost American football team, based in buffalo.

You’ve totally missed the point of this story. Williams’ behavior is scandalous, the fantasy football version of Tim Donaghy. I mean, this guy can influence the stats! It’s an outrage!
Obviously Panger had the Raiders Defense and picked Marvin Harrison instead of Roy Williams :-p
