David Beckham injured. Again.

beckham_hurt.jpgMost knew David Beckham wasn’t going to actually “save” the game of soccer here in America, but if nothing else, he was at least going to draw some more people out to MLS games and garner a bit more excitement for the sport. It’s a positive, anyway you slice it.

That is, you know, if he wasn’t injured all the damn time.

David Beckham is in major doubt for England’s two upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers after straining knee ligaments while playing for Los Angeles Galaxy in the Super Liga final on Wednesday.

Beckham left the field in the 30th minute after injuring his right knee in a fall.

The injury puts the former England captain in doubt for the qualifiers against Israel on Sept. 8, and Russia on Sept. 12.

“I’m going to have a scan tomorrow and we’ll see the full extent of what it is and how long I’ll be out, but at the moment, it doesn’t feel great,” Beckham said.

“At this stage, it’s hard to tell, but it doesn’t feel good. With a ligament strain, it’s 4-to-6 weeks. We’ll have to wait and see.”

This certainly is no fault of Mr. Beckham. After all, he’s not trying to get injured or anything. But this just gives soccer naysayers more ammunition to fire at the whole Beckham Coming To America experiment, one that’s just become derailed one again.

Oh also: the Galaxy lost on PKs last night in the Super Liga final. Viva Pachuca!
