It’s a man’s game, David

I have no idea what’s so strangely watchable about these Futbol Meets Football clips. Maybe it’s the idea that in a different world — one in which soccer was a commercially viable option for top American athletes — Reggie Bush might just be the best striker in the world. Just watching him boot around the ball makes one’s mouth salivate with hope for U.S. soccer’s future.

Beckham, on the other hand: he could have maybe been a kicker. Other than that, no.

But something gets me about these clips, both the finished product (above) and the litany of outtakes on Youtube. MJD and MDS already made a note of it, but seeing Beckham get delicately horse-collared and saying “Fuck that hurt” is oddly compelling. I have no idea why.

Yes, I’m totally aware this is the second consecutive David Beckham post. What, like anything else is happening in sports today. Kidding; Bonds stuff in a bit.
