Vladimir Guerrero has an unwieldy swing

vladhr.jpgSince we don’t talk about baseball nearly enough around these parts, here are some observations from last night’s Home Run Derby in no particular order:

1) I don’t know how much Gatorade paid — maybe they didn’t pay anything extra — but seriously, did those kids have to run out after every player was done and force that bottle of Gatorade and Gatorade towel down their throats like that? Seemed a bit forced and unnecessary.

2) This was going to be my main point of emphasis, but since Flyer’s Fieldhouse got to this before I did, I will direct you there. But yeah, I’m shocked none of the kids in the outfield got hurt last night. They seemed to misjudge damn near every ball. I’m pretty sure one time a ball landed between a kid’s leg on the fly. That’s dangerous, folks.

3) There were nice couches on the field this year. That was a good idea. Because really, who wants to sit on a bench, folding chair or worse yet, the grass?

4) AT&T Park is a hard place to hit a homer, especially for a lefty. Which, steroids or no steroids for Barry Bonds, makes his feats all the more impressive.

5) The “Baseball Tonight” guys really seemed out of place in the studio. That was just … awkward.

And lastly, I didn’t give The Bronx is Burning a chance. Any good?

Dude you wanna know what else sucked about that contest last night…..too many appearances by Jordan “the Barber”. You know the dude with the graffiti shirt running over to hump Vlad’s leg or wipe his brow with a Dominican flag after every home run. He started hugging Pujols after one at bat and The King looked like he didn’t even know him. That dude sucked, and where was his field pass anyway…….
