Postmen Guest Post: Joakim Noah and the Bulls

You may remember back at the end of April, we brought in friend of and sometimes commenter on the Postmen, GK, to write his thoughts about Jeff Jordan and the Illini. Well, he’s a bit obsessive about the NBA and particularly the state of our Chicago Bulls, so here he is again musing on the Joakim Noah pick. Enjoy.

I’ve never liked Joakim Noah, but I’ve never been sure if it was because of the way he played or his hair, which was at its worst Thursday night. (I thought you could use a pic of him without his hat on.)

But now that he’s a Bull, I’ll do my best to find the good in him. On the bright side he’s a winner, he’s a good defender, his motor never stops and he is an exceptional passer. However, he is not a good scorer. Even though some scouts maintain he is a more skilled offensive player than many realize, the fact is most of his points come off dunks. So what’s the problem with the Bulls choice at No. 9?

One: they didn’t address their need for post scoring. And two: pretty much all of this stuff could also describe Tyrus Thomas. The Bulls now have two of the same style player, who both need time to develop at the NBA level. The light at the end of the tunnel is John Paxson, and the great job he has done with this team thus far. When he was put in as GM I was personally disappointed B.J. Armstrong didn’t get the job, but I couldn’t be happier with the job Pax has done, especially when he metaphorically de-pantsed Isiah Thomas in what have could have been a devastating situation with the loss of Eddy Curry.

Pax has been patient and smart and if I had to guess I’d tell you either Noah or Thomas is no longer a Bull by this time next year, and the Bulls will have a post scorer. That’s what I’m hoping for at least.
