Something interesting happened in the early rounds of Wimbledon
The lovely lady pictured to your right is Tatiana Golovin, a 19-year-old French tennis player. She wore red underwear today at Wimbledon, as you can see there. And, um, she got asked a lot of questions about it post match, because it apparently might violate a dress code rule or something.
An All England Club spokesman said undergarments can be any colour as long as they remain shorter than the skirt.
Of 15 questions asked at the 19-year-old’s post match press conference, 10 were related to her underwear.
Golovin, who beat Su-Wei Hsieh in three sets, said she chose the colour to show she is strong and confident.
Asked if she was questioned by officials about her clothing, she replied: “No, I think it is totally in the dress code.”
She added that she plans to wear the same knickers in her third round match.
“For now, for these two weeks, it is going to be red. Then it is a surprise for after.”
An All England Club spokesman said: “The rules state that players can wear any colour clothing they like provided it is not longer than their shorts or skirt.
“Anything else must be white, but in this instance there has been no breach of the rules.”
To recap: red underwear is cool, so long as it is not longer than the white garment you are wearing on top of it. These are Wimbledon dress code rules, brought to you by the Postmen.
