Chicago’s finest - OK, not really - suspended

tankjohnson.jpgIt’s not every day that one city gets two crucial suspensions laid down in one day, but the stars have aligned and shone down on the city of Chicago today. Lou Piniella gets four games; Tank Johnson gets eight.

Of course, we all know the stories behind these two divisive figures. After repeated warnings from the Bears organization about the quality of his company, Lou Piniella was at a night club with his ex-con friend when that friend was shot. Piniella served 60 days in jail, which allowed him to resume his normal dugout diet.

Meanwhile Tank Johnson, he of the legendary temper and quirky managerial style, was caught in his team’s downward spiral this weekend. First, Johnson was thrown in the midst of a fight between Carlos Zambrano and Michael Barrett; the next day, six straight losses took its toll, as Johnson stormed the field and bumped an umpire with his tummy. Alex Brown will manage the Cubs during the suspension.

Wait, did I switch something up here? Now I’m all confused.
