No. MJ was perfectly normal, because unless it was the end of the game, the most he would do was an understated gesture - like a quick fist pump, or the shouder shrug thing (God that was awesome).

But Rogers displays some form of unsolicited, uncontrolled emotion just about every pitch, regardless of the outcome. Watch him. If he misses the zone, he's back out on the mound yelling at himself; if the ball is hit, he spins around dramatically to see if it will be caught, then marches around the infield while the ball is thrown back in; if he strikes someone out, well, look out.

I have no problem with emotion - and also, let's not compare MJ's artistic license to that of Kenny freakin' Rogers - as long as it's genuine. It seems now that Kenny has had success with this new "emotional" approach, he uses it simply for the sake of using it. Which, in my mind, makes him a total douche.

What's funny is that that bothers me far more than a little pine tar on his palm.

So I guess we should reevalutate MJ's psyche for fist pumping after draining shots. And how dare he shrug his holders after hitting his 6th three in the NBA finals versus the Blazers. What a jerk.

I think you are making a gross exaggeration about 'every pitch' being celebrated.

Guy:

He can celebrate after the game all he wants. He can even celebrate during the game, even after every inning. Whatever. But every fucking pitch doesn't warrant jumping around, fist-pumping, yelling at himself, etc etc etc. A little restraint would be nice, and would go pretty far in reassuring me about The Gambler's mental state, about which I have serious doubts.

Yea!! How dare he get excited about winning a world series game. Perhaps it would be better if he did a riverdance impersonation after a strikeout, or pretended to putt the baseball using a bat as a putter. Then he would be hip and cool and celebration would be ok!

We might be drastically overestimating Kenny Rogers' intelligence here. This is also the person that attacked a camera crew somewhat arbitrarily and insists on jumping around like a fucking moron after every pitch.

It's funny how much ESPN is playing this Kenny Rogers story up. If he cheated, the ump would have thrown him out. I'm not sure what was on his hand, but I'm fairly confident in his ability not to be stupid enough to put pine tar on his hand before every camera in the world focuses on him.

Exposing Kenny Rogers as a cheat is a redeeming quality for Hi-Definition Television. I had thought of abandoning the technology entirely thanks to Albert Pujols' giant lip herpes.
