Weekend Fun: So, what else is there to do?

homer.gifAs I noted earlier today, this is one of the first ‘Weekend Fun’ posts we’ve ever had to make without mentioning the NBA playoffs. Fortunately, the NBA draft is nearly here, so you can spend some time this weekend thinking about that, if you’re so inclined. (We’d like to personally thank Isiah Thomas for the Bulls’ beneificial draft picks this year. Thanks, Ike.)

Also, the lack of basketball will certainly be accompanied by an increased interest in day-to-day baseball stuff - and not just Ozzie Guillen vs. Jay Mariotti nonsense (though Rick Morrissey writes a column worth reading today on the subject). Like, actual baseball. I might even start working through the Cubs media guide I was recently given. Exciting stuff, I know.

But, in the short term, the NBA’s lingering absence will no doubt be most effectively filled by the World Cup, which, despite a boring afternoon of action today, continues to entertain and surprise and destroy the spirits of men. Group of 16 action starts tomorrow afternoon with Germany v. Sweden at 11 and Argentina v. Mexico at 3. Sunday, the team I’m likely to root on now, England, will face Ecuador in the early match, and those pesky Polskis will take on their neighbors, the Netherlands.

R departs for Bloomington as we speak, signaling impending drunkenness. Enjoy your weekend as well, peeps. See you Monday.

    Two comments about Morrisey’s article, and there are also some interesting insights written on ESPN’s Page 2 about the ongoing fued.

    A.) I am praying every night that Mariotti goes into the Sox locker room because I cannot wait to see what Guillen would do. Outside of physically assaulting Mariotti, I can only imagine some of the out of this world comments Guillen would surely make in front of twenty-some microphones.

    B.) E, is Mr. Morrisey leading us to believe that you authored that last post in your tightey-whiteys? I have some vivid mental images right now! (furthering R’s comments about our relationship).

    If I had tighty-whities, I would definitely post in them - maybe even with some live photoblogging to accompany the action.

    Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ve had a good swath of white underwear since my pre-Kindergarten days. I guess I’ll have to stick to blogging in my SpongeBob Squarepants pajamas.

    by the way, brett myers hits his wife in the face and you guys have no response? where’s the hustle, griffey? He closed his hand and struck the woman from who’s womb came his children, in the face no less, then made her bale him out of the can. i think it’s time…

    Ecuador: what a waste of space. I don’t understand how a team got that far without the ability to put passes on target.

    Hopefully we can draw Poland and Costa Rica next time. Although Ecuador did beat Brazil in quals…
