I don't personally know your ten year old cousin, but I imagine he has better command of the english language than the lovable Ozzie. He probably has a better control of his emotions as well. And for all we know, yes, he very well could have won a world series title. Now that (italicize, please), would have been a story!

Thanks for the novel and the concession--and oh yea, tell Frank thanks for being such a big part of the parade!?!

Zing!

Well, I can take care of your second complaint, the 'a manager who tells it like it is' diatribe. It's an easy and obvious flaw in my logic as you easily pointed to the Tracey situation. Would it have been better for me to say 'a manager that doesn't spew out generic quotes like the rest of coaches in the league.' (save for jim leyland) I'd perfer a guy that actually has something to say rather than 'Well, we are playing well, we just aren't winning.' (Like another coach in Chicago.) Guillen says 'We flat out stink.' I think maybe that suits my point a bit better.

And you may not care about the unwritten rules of baseball. but the fact of the matter is, everyone in the game does. that's why he did what he did.

sticking up for his players? how about him thinking it's crap none of them are voted on the all-star team right now and vocally saying he will take a lot of them with when he gets to pick the extra players.

getting on his players? how about calling out frank thomas last year as being part of the problem of the team's bad attitude. after he came back, he knew his role and didn't run his mouth. when he got hurt again, he hung out with the team during the world series and was a big part of the parade.

and if your logic is that he walked into a damn good situation with the talent his team has, then hell, we might as well have gotten terry bevington back. he could have lead us to victory as well! hell, i might as well have been the manager, sat back and watched MY team cruise to a world series! heck, i'm sure my 10-year-old cousin could have lead us to the promise land as well!

But, really. I can see your perspective. I am wordly like that. You will have your opinion. I will have mine. And they won't change. I need to go catch a train home now. Goodbye.

While your last two paragraphs are a valiant attempt at vindicating your sack of shit manager, let us look no farther than this incident to find a suitable rebuttal.

You Say: "A manager that sticks up for his team"
I Say: Was this pitcher Tracey not a member of the White Sox team? Publicly berating someone, almost to the point of tears, for not hurling a 90MPH fastball at their dome, is not my idea of my skipper gettin' my back.

You Say: "A manager who tells it like it is"
I Say: I didn't have to look far to negate this one (see above). This article you just cited is calling Ozzie full of shit, and it looks to me like he is putting up quite the 'smokescreen'. But hey, that's just me telling it like it is. I don't care about the unwritten rules, if Ozzie is the hardass he tries to make himself out to be, he should have manned up to the fact he lost control in this situation.

I don't really know how Ozzie gets on his players to get the most out of them, perhaps elaboration might be necessary on that cliche'.

But yea, he won a world series in his second year. He walked into a damn good situation with the talent that team has. Let's see how he reacts when the talent isn't all there and things aren't going the SOX way---if it's anything like his reaction last night, should be entertainment for all!

Ozzie did in fact comment. This explains it better than I can. It's from the Sun-Times article. It's lenghty, but needed to figure everything out.

The explanation offered by Guillen after the game was well thought out but also a big smokescreen. And while Guillen is never one to lie to the media, he also knows the unwritten rule of baseball that states a manager or player never can admit to throwing at an opposing player without serious repercussions from the league office.

"I felt the thing with Tracey was he's not a mop-up man,'' Guillen said. "He's one of our prospects and shouldn't be in the game for mop-up time. I took too long to get Montero ready to go, and that was my mistake.

"It was my fault that Montero wasn't up quick enough. I got caught between leaving Vazquez in the game or not.''

Guillen, however, was caught on camera screaming at someone in the dugout after removing Tracey. When the camera focused on Tracey, he was visibly upset and looked almost on the brink of tears. A Sox source said after the game that Tracey was informed he was being sent back down to Class AAA Charlotte.

"Ozzie went nuts,'' one source said. "He had the ass, big-time.''

Tracey was asked about the incident after the game and said: "I have no comment to you guys. No comment.''

Guillen was asked why he was so angry if it was just a simple mistake, and he kept to the script perfectly.

"He's not a mop-up guy,'' Guillen said of Tracey. "I think [he was upset] because he didn't know what the manager was thinking.''

So yeah, pretty much a load crap. He was pissed Tracey didn't throw at Blalock. One of the few times I've ever heard of Guillen not telling it straight to the media. Now, I believe this was done because it dealt with one of those 'unwritten rules of baseball,' that no one in the game ever talks about to the media-types. Save for Jason Grimsely and Jose Conseco.

And yes, a manager that sticks up for his team, tells it like it is, gets on his players to get the most out of them and wins a world series isn't someone I would want representing my organization either. Although, if I'm not a Sox fan, I could see it differently, maybe.

Did Guillen not address why he screamed at Tracey because he wasn't asked or did he refuse to comment?

This further solidifies that Ozzie would be the last person I would want representing my organization.
