Duke lax team off the hook?

dukehouse.jpg

Early last evening, news broke that attorneys for the Duke lacrosse team said DNA testing turned up no matches between any of their clients and the alleged sexually assaulted exotic dancer.

Many were quick to call the team guilty, based on their refusal to comply with the district attorney – instead opting to keep silent and not cooperate. Once the ‘vile e-mail’ surfaced, the team looked worse than ever.

But does this new evidence mean they are out in the clear?

The district attorney said today that just because no DNA matches occurred, it doesn’t mean he will stop perusing the investigation.

They certainly aren’t off the hook, but the DNA testing results will go a long way to change the team’s public perception.

In the event this case is not able to proceed, and the team is off the hook, I would hope all the people jumping on the bandwagon to have the lax team castrated get it thrown back in their face. I understand the cause for stopping rape, violence against women, etc, but these people need to get the facts straight before they start banging pots and pans and lambasting racial and sexual overtones throughout the land. Apparently these people were using Milton’s “Jump to Conclusions Mat” when figuring how to appropriately react to this situation.

Here’s hoping people chill out and wait for more information next time rather than relying on accusations and heresy.

I have a hard time believing they have done nothing wrong, either this time or in the past. Their coach had to have known what was going on or he wouldn’t have split. It’s Duke Lacrosse - you don’t just leave.

Under that kind of heat and pressure—-yes you do, especially when the whole community/90% of the country has convicted your entire team regardless of any actual charges being pressed.

He resigned like two days later. That’s not pressure. Pressure is being Mike Davis who was going to be fired eventually after his second season at IU unless he won a champion ship.

Mike Davis was under pressure to win—The Duke lacrosse coach was under the pressure of an investigation involving his whole team (minus one african american player) who were accused of the second most serious crime in the state of North Carolina–only behind first degree murder. I know which pressure I would rather have. Figure it out.

The coach was not charged with rape. In fact, no body has been charged with anything.

Your statements are awfully contradictory, and you seem to not know where you stand. In your first post, you say “I have a hard time believing they have done nothing wrong”, and also saying “the coach must have known something is going on”—but they haven’t been charged as you say in your last statment. So what is it?

I believe they did something wrong. That’s a belief. It has nothing to do with the court system established by Congress in the United States. That’s where I stand. It’s not wildly complicated.

I believe in pots of gold at the end of rainbows, ninjas, pirates, the tooth fairy, and Santa Claus–but they have about as much factual background as you saying you believe they did something wrong. I will believe they did something wrong when they are charged with something and proven guilty of it. That, my friend, IS within the court system “established by Congres..blah, blah, blah”. Perhaps you should join the pots and pans club which has also prematurely judged this situation.

The pots and pans club … like those who believe OJ Simpson is guilty or that R. Kelly peed on a girl?
Being high and mighty is boring. In my personal life, I prefer to ride the wave that is media. I’m not a judge or juror, prosecutor or defense attorney. But I will use the information available to me to make a judgement … just like most of my peers. Anyway, I don’t really care too much what happens anymore. Thanks for making being a couch-pundit no fun. Love, Sam
